Rooted in passion.
Driven by conservation.
The Long Island Reef Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit of dedicated marine aquarium hobbyists united by a love for reef ecosystems and a commitment to protecting them.
Who we are
LIRA brings together reef enthusiasts from all corners of Long Island — from beginners setting up their first saltwater tank to expert aquarists with decades of experience propagating rare corals.
As a 501(c)(3) educational organization, our work goes beyond the hobbyist community. We actively promote conservation by reducing demand for wild-caught marine specimens through captive propagation, and by building public awareness about the fragility of natural reef ecosystems worldwide.
Whether you're here to learn, to share, or simply to connect with people who share your passion for the ocean — you've found your community
